Executive
Colonel (ret) Bernie Derbach
With a decorated 34-year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), Bernie has a proven track record in aviation excellence and leadership.
His service included extensive experience as a Pilot Instructor, Search & Rescue Pilot, and Military VIP Pilot, culminating in his appointment as Director of the RCAF Air Reserve before his retirement.
Following his military service, Bernie channeled his strategic expertise into the private sector, where he successfully mentored and advised new manufacturing and retail start-ups.
Now a Level 1 Complex Certified drone pilot and Flight Reviewer, Bernie is dedicated to elevating the standards of the commercial drone community. He provides critical support to new entrepreneurs by developing the foundational corporate documents required for operational success and compliance. At the core of his work is an uncompromising focus on flight safety—a principle that led him to create a series of robust, field-tested drone checklists modelled after military protocols.
