Qualification Requirements

To fly as a professional VO for EVLOS or Level 1 Complex missions, you must:

  1. Hold a Certificate: Have at least a Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations.

  2. Be Trained: Complete a recognized training program covering CARs Part IX, emergency protocols, and communication.

  3. Be Fit for Duty: Maintain the visual and physical capability to monitor the sky and ground effectively.

Become a Professional RPAS Visual Observer

Under Transport Canada’s new regulations, the Visual Observer (VO) is no longer just a "helper"—they are a trained, essential crew member. This is the perfect entry point for pilots looking to turn their hobby into a career.

Who This Is For
  • Basic Certificate Holders: You don’t need an Advanced certificate to work professionally. A pilot with a Basic certificate can earn money right now as a trained VO on commercial crews.

  • Career Starters: Ideal for those wanting paid, hands-on experience in complex operations.

What You’ll Be Able to Do
  • Unlock Complex Missions: Enable EVLOS (Extended Visual Line-of-Sight) and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight) operations where a VO is a legal requirement.

  • Professional Crew Member: Act as the critical link for air traffic detection, ground safety, and emergency coordination.

  • Work with Heavy Lift: Support operations involving medium drones (up to 150kg) in industrial or cinematic settings.

The Bottom Line: For EVLOS and BVLOS, a trained VO is mandatory.

This requirement creates a massive opportunity for Basic pilots to get hired for high-level jobs.
